About This Place

Located in the heart of Whittier, CA, Uptown Provisions masterfully blends the charm of a gourmet grocery store with the mouthwatering allure of a sandwich shop. This vibrant local favorite is a sanctuary for those who crave hearty, flavorful sandwiches crafted with quality ingredients and an evident passion for taste.

The sandwich lineup here is truly irresistible. Whether you’re indulging in the richly smoky pastrami, the melt-in-your-mouth prime rib and BBQ brisket, or the garden-fresh Market Veggie sandwich, every bite bursts with thoughtful complexity. The Market Veggie, with its grilled portabello mushroom, artichoke tapenade, fresh bell peppers, cucumbers, and house sprouts on country bread, offers a vegetarian option that doesn't compromise on flavor or heartiness. For meat lovers, the smoked pastrami and brisket sandwiches deliver a satisfying depth of smoky, savory goodness, perfectly paired with their signature crispy yet tender bread – a testament to Uptown Provisions’ dedication to craft and quality.

Patrons consistently praise the quality of the bread and the generous portions, ensuring a fulfilling meal. The inclusion of sides like baby potato salad, Greek salad, and a caprese salad adds refreshing variety, balancing the robust flavors of the main sandwiches. For a little extra kick, Zab’s Hot Sauce offers a tantalizing pop of heat that many customers appreciate.

The atmosphere at Uptown Provisions is warm and unpretentious, embodying the cozy corner deli vibe with a modern gourmet twist. While it’s a small space, the moment you step inside, you feel an unmistakable energy—an anticipation for the delights served up. However, many guests have noted the longer-than-average wait times, especially during peak hours. One customer explained the delay stemmed from limited oven capacity when preparing hot sandwiches. Despite this, several reviews highlight that the wait is worth it; the flavors, freshness, and overall satisfaction more than compensate for the patience required.

Customers like Farley G describe their egg sandwiches as some of the best they've ever had, while the renowned Reubens receive rave accolades for the perfect balance of tender meat and flavorful sauce. The sandwich experience here is elevated by careful ingredient choices and artisanal bread, resulting in deeply satisfying meals that keep guests coming back for more. Danny Post’s recommendation of the Reuben and Sarah C’s assertion that Uptown Provisions serves “the rumored best sandwich in LA” echo a shared appreciation among locals and visitors alike.

In essence, Uptown Provisions offers a thoughtfully curated menu that caters to a broad audience, from meat aficionados craving a luscious brisket to veggie lovers eager for a fully loaded, vibrant sandwich. If you can embrace the small wait, you'll be rewarded with sandwiches that are full-flavored, generously portioned, and wonderfully crafted. It’s a genuine gem in Whittier's culinary scene, where everyday ingredients become elevated, and each sandwich tells a story of quality and care.

For those planning a visit, ordering ahead might be a wise choice to skip long lines and get straight to enjoying what Uptown Provisions does best—delivering hearty, scrumptious sandwiches that linger fondly in memory long after the last bite.

I was very excited to try a sandwich. I ordered the pastrami and my husband ordered the turkey. We waited 120 minutes for the sandwiches. When I asked why we had to wait so long. I was told the oven was too small and we ordered a hot sandwich. Honestly, it is such an easy fix. Please get the right equipment. The sandwiches are very tasty, but I will not wait that long again.

Hour wait, but worth it. The curry chicken salad sandwich was soooooo good as well as the veggie sandwich. Going back to try different flavors. Crispy bread. Quality ingredients. Potato salad was ok, not my cup of tea. Also, GREAT PRICES.

Awesome Reuben, the meat was tender the sauce to meat ratio was perfect. I highly recommend it. I went during a lunch rush so the wait time was a little over 25 min. Well worth the wait.

The best Reuben you’ll ever have. Turkey has a kick but it’s fantastic. I can’t believe how amazing this was. ORDER AHEAD. I saw people waiting 45 minutes in this small joint. However, worth the sandwich and drink variety. There’s a reason this place is the rumored best sandwich in LA!

Went with my family here and got a variety of sandwiches. All which were high quality and delicious My 100% favorite was the sandwich that had pastrami with egg salad. I think it was the Tom's Way sandwich Pastrami here was salty and super tender. Perfection Spicy gabbagool tasted like authentic Italian sandwich. I've never had authentic but im betting its on the money or close to it. Amazing sandwich I liked my sandwich which was the prime rib and bbq brisket but the broccoli slaw took me out of it a bit. I went in figuring it might. Don't care for sweet in a meaty sandwich. But if you like broccoli slaw I'd imagine you would love this sandwich. They have Stumptown products which are the best coffee products I've ever had so this place is a must try. Im gonna start hiking over here so I can get this place more often. My new favorite sandwich stop!
